WHAT IS BOUND FOR PEACE?
Bound for Peace is a service trip program that sends volunteers to develop workshops for youth in Latin America. We strive to facilitate interactive and educational workshops relevant to community needs, to strengthen social and emotional support for the kids we work with, and to provide volunteers with exposure to ideas about equity and inclusivity.
During the week, volunteers will develop hard work, deep critical reflection, and effective communication skills in order to facilitate workshops with the kids. On the weekends, volunteers will be exposed to the country's culture through excursions and different festivals taking place during your stay. Over one hundred volunteers have traveled with Children Beyond Our Borders in the past. We are looking for passionate caring individuals who are open to sharing their love with our children and being immersed in a new culture. We would love to have you join our amazing team!
Prior to leaving, all volunteers will go through an extensive training process unique to Children Beyond Our Borders in preparation for the service trip. Volunteers will create workshops for children from the ages of 4-18. The curriculum empowers children by using these workshops to encourage character development, entrepreneurship, and self-sufficiency. Training for volunteers includes learning what makes an effective workshop, how to execute these workshops, background of the city and country traveling to, effective interpersonal communication skills with fellow volunteers and the children, and all important trip specific logistics. In addition, volunteers will receive training on pertinent social issues affecting youth such as socioeconomic status, inclusivity of different identities, and cultural awareness and respect. Training is a virtual and hands on experience. Following the completion of training, volunteers receive a certificate of hours worked with a letter of recommendation.
