Valentina Rincon
Age: 21 Years
Career: Human Resources
Graduation Date: TBA

What motivated you to go to university?

What motivated me the most to undertake my studies at the university was my desire to continue learning and growing professionally. Also, the idea of being able to help my family economically in the future was one of the main reasons.

Why did you choose your career?

I chose this career because I found all the topics that it covers and all the things you can learn about a business very interesting. Also, the human aspect that this career entails and the opportunity to improve personally and professionally.

When did you become an IAMCBOB Scholar?

I became an IAMCBOB Scholar in 2018.

How does the IAMCBOB scholarship help you?

The IAMCBOB Scholar scholarship has helped me a lot economically through the course of my studies (transportation, food, supplies, etc.), but more importantly, it has helped me improve my capacity to serve and to help those who need it, share my abilities, and to do things with love.

What are your plans after graduation?

When I finish my career I want to specialize in Human Resources to learn more and be able to practice the career. The idea is to continue improving and studying so I can help my family in every aspect.

What is your ideal job?

My ideal job would be practicing what I love and not seeing it as an obligation, but rather like a passion that everyday I strive to be the best in and do it with love.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years I see myself as an independent professional with economic and emotional stability. Doing what I love and helping my family in all aspects of life, and people who need help. Also, saving up for my own house and achieving many goals.

Tell us your story.

My name is Valentina Lopez, I am 21 years old, I was born in Medellin/ San Antonio de Prado, and I live with 3 sisters, 3 cousins, and my grandmother. Since I was little I have always enjoyed living surrounded by people since my family is pretty large. I lost my mom when I was 4 years old and although I have my dad and have a good relationship with him, we have never lived together because I decided to live with my mom’s side of the family. I believe that not having my  parents with me in every stage of my life has greatly influenced my personality and the way I perceive life. I have my grandma who always fought for us and was able to help us have a better future without having the support or company of our mothers. I used to not like studying, but after failing 2 years of high school, I realized the value of time when you truly learn to take advantage of it. Since then, I promised myself to learn and study as much as I can, now I study Human Resources and I believe it's an experience that I will never forget, as it has helped me improve in every sense. I love playing sports, I exercise every time I can and it’s another career that I would like to study (Sports Training). Until now, I am proud of myself, of everything that I have accomplished and the way I see life. My future plans and everything in general, motivates me to continue fighting for what I want so I can give back to my grandmother everything that she has done for us.

Who do you admire?

The person that I admire the most is my grandmother because she did what not every woman would do. She never abandoned us even though she didn't have a way to support us. Her three daughters passed away and left nine grandchildren and I still ask myself how she managed to survive that. She will always be my inspiration to continue to study and work and that way I can give her a better life.
