Children Beyond Our Borders is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide opportunities for children and youth affected by armed conflict and social injustice. CBOB does this by:

  • Creating awareness about the issues faced by youth affected by armed conflict and social injustice in Latin America and the world.
  • Providing educational tools that stimulate self-esteem, interest, curiosity and innovation through our mentoring and vocational education program.
  • Establishing relationships with the children, their caregivers, volunteers and donors and creating partnerships with universities and nonprofit organizations to further our mission.

Children Beyond Our Borders would use the gift to execute each mission in the following ways:

  1. Creating awareness: CBOB would host the forum: “Un Dia En Los Barrios” (A Day in the Slums). During the forum, CBOB representatives and affiliated educators would provide participating students an opportunity to walk a day in our children’s shoes. There would be three main options for students to choose from: educational supplies, edibles, and materials. In the educational supplies, participating students would surrender simple supplies like a pen, paper, calculators, etc. In the edibles option, students would approach CBOB booths around campus and would be given a bottled water and a cup with plain white rice. Participating students would attempt to carry on with their day with only these food items. Lastly, students participating in the materials option would forfeit their access to their most prized possessions for the day; for example: cellphones, shoes, laptops, makeup, etc. Following the day-long event, CBOB would host a workshop in which students would be encouraged to come and share their opinions and stories. At said workshop, CBOB would emphasize how fortunate we are and how to help those that are not. Lastly, CBOB would screen Give Us Names’ documentary Leaving La Floresta, which demonstrates the relevant issues presented during “Un Dia En Los Barrios.”
  2. Providing Educational Tools: CBOB would establish a scholarship fund with 50% of the gift to benefit the students who have been part of CBOB’s programs and more importantly, have left the endless poverty life cycle. More specifically, Yosimar Palacios would be the first scholar to receive 15% of the gift. Yosimar is an iamCBOB scholar who has experienced many of the issues targeted by CBOB, and who most importantly has graduated with his Associate’s Degree. The scholarship would go directly to the debt he has accumulated in pursing his AA. After observing his unbelievable life experiences, hard commitment to education and personal dedication to his community, CBOB would like to honor him with such scholarship.
  3. Establishing Relationships: 20% of the gift would be used to document the awareness event and the IAMCBOB scholarship. CBOB would dedicate such multimedia for marketing and advertising the issues faced by youth around the world. Issues with manageable causes and which CBOB has demonstrated to make a difference in would be alleviated.
